My Generation

You need to watchthe whole clip. It is very powerful

Voice Thread

I also had a lot of fun learning to use voice thread.  this is a great application for creating Podcasts.  I found some great archival pictures from the NYPL, and made a small podcast about Industrial Jobs in the 1920's.  I don't really teach anything related to this, so it is just for fun, but I am thinking of ways that I can use Voice Thread in my classes.

Using Prezi

I really enjoyed learning how to use Prezi.  It is so much better than Powerpoint fro me, because I am not a real linear thinker.  Prazi allows me to move from topic to topic in any order, while at the same time it keeps me from going off on tangents.  It also helps me to show the connections between apparently unrelated things.

I prepared a presentation that I will be giving tonight at my CDF class.  I had it outlined on paper, and it took me about an hour to make the Prezi.  I can still work more on the details- adding color and visuals, but I think it looks pretty good

the Prezi is below.  Just click on the play button to advance through the show.

Let me know what you think

google docs

Google docs has a lot of good features, but I have not been impressed with it. google needs to put a team to work on fixing all the bugs. Right now I'd say "Watch out for free software!"

Voice Thread

Here is another new thing- Voice Thread. This application allows me to make podcasts that I can use for general storytelling and also for school. Here is a link to my first voice thread: http://voicethread.com/share/979396/. I used a picture of my cabin and told a short story about it.

Here is another podcast

Picasa

Last time I tried to download Picasa for my Mac, they did not have the application ready for the Mac platform. Today I have it- YEAH! I have used Picasa for a couple of years on my PC laptop, but most of my pictures are on my Mac desktop. So, now the Picasa app is going through all my pictures.

I like the faces feature, where it finds people's faces in your pictures and tries to identify them.

Soon I will put some of my more respectable pictures on the blog.

As far as the classroom is concerned, when I teach shop classes, the kids love to have their pictures taken with their work and their use of tools. I can share these pictures on the blog using Picasa. Just need to be careful of privacy rights. I never take a student's picture without their permission. And then I would never put it on the public website without their permission.

Social Bookmarking

Here is a link to my social bookmarking site www.delicious.com/mannabergc. I have 23 bookmarks that I think other teachers might like to investigate. I look forward to growing my social bookmarking network.

Web 2.0

I am starting to take a new class with Brooke Storm. In this class we will be learning about using Web 2.0 applications so we can collaborate with other teachers, and teach students how to collaborate with each other
